SUBCONSCIOUS COMICS

Where does Subconscious Comics take place?

In the subconscious. That means all the action is inside a human head. But don't look for nerve endings, or gray matter, or blood. The subconscious contains these things, but only as the stuff of dreams. No cartoon characters were actually hurt in the drawing of these comic strips.

Whose head is it?

It's a man's head. That's about all I can tell you. Since everybody dreams, though, it could be anybody's head.

What is the name of the monkey in the underpants?

He's "Boss."

Who is the Boss, exactly?

The Boss is the self-appointed Plant Manager of the Subconscious. He responds to crises; he issues orders; he wrestles with dilemmas. He is Civilized Man, our self-aware self, the guy we talk to when we talk to ourselves. The ghost in the machine. He's filled with questionable insights, wild schemes, tortured rationalizations. The Subconscious goes on in spite of him. You might say that "the Boss" is an ironic title.
